Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ampicillin + dicloxacillin is a fixed-dose combination antibiotic consisting of two beta-lactam antibiotics from the penicillin class. Ampicillin is a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin that targets a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, while dicloxacillin is a narrow-spectrum, penicillinase-resistant penicillin specifically effective against beta-lactamase-producing staphylococci. The combination works synergistically by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through the prevention of peptidoglycan layer formation. It is marketed under the brand name AMPIBACT by GM GROUP and is indicated for various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, meningitis, and gonorrhea.
