Overview

Ampicillin + gentamicin + clindamycin is a combination of three antibiotics commonly used for the treatment of severe or complicated infections, particularly in pediatric and obstetric settings. This regimen is frequently employed for conditions such as complicated appendicitis in children and peripartum or intra-abdominal infections. - Ampicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic (aminopenicillin) that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to cell lysis and death. - Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, causing misreading of mRNA and inhibition of protein synthesis. - Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit. This triple therapy provides broad-spectrum coverage against gram-positive bacteria (including anaerobes), gram-negative bacteria, and some anaerobic organisms. It has been shown to be effective in treating serious mixed aerobic/anaerobic infections[2][3][5][8].
