**Amylmetacresol + 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol** is a combination of two antiseptics used primarily in lozenges for the symptomatic relief of sore throat, cough, and minor mouth and throat infections. Both components possess antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties, providing broad-spectrum antiseptic activity. The drug is indicated for the management of sore throat and minor mouth and throat infections, and is also used for relief of pain associated with mouth ulcers and postoperative throat soreness[2][3][4][5][8]. The combination works via two main mechanisms: direct antiseptic action as well as reversible blockade of depolarisation-induced ion channels in a manner similar to that of local anaesthetics, contributing to both antimicrobial and analgesic effects[4][5]. In vitro data demonstrate rapid bactericidal action against common pathogens in pharyngitis and some virucidal effects, including activity against coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV[1][6][10]. Onset of analgesia occurs within 5 minutes and lasts up to 2–3 hours[3][4][2][7]. This combination is formulated in oral suckable lozenges, with some variants containing additional local anesthetics such as lidocaine[9].
