Overview

Androsta-4,9(11)-diene-3,17-dione is a synthetic steroidal compound investigated for its multi-target anti-cancer properties in estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer. It acts as a polypharmacological agent, functioning as an aromatase inhibitor, an androgen receptor (AR) agonist, and a modulator of estrogen receptor (ER) signaling. In preclinical studies using MCF-7aro and AI-resistant LTEDaro cell lines, the compound has demonstrated the ability to arrest cell cycle progression and induce apoptosis, potentially overcoming resistance to standard endocrine therapies like aromatase inhibitors and anti-estrogens.
