Overview

Anidulafungin + fluconazole is a combination of two antifungal agents used primarily in research and clinical settings for the treatment of invasive Candida infections. Anidulafungin is a semi-synthetic echinocandin that inhibits 1,3-β-D-glucan synthase, disrupting fungal cell wall synthesis and leading to cell death. Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α-demethylase, impairing ergosterol synthesis and compromising the integrity of the fungal cell membrane. In vitro studies have shown that this combination can be synergistic against certain Candida species, particularly those with elevated minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) to either agent alone[1][2]. The clinical relevance of this synergy remains under investigation.
