Overview

This is an autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Southwest Hospital in China. It targets the B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), also known as tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 17 (TNFRSF17), which is preferentially expressed on mature B lymphocytes and malignant plasma cells. The therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that recognizes BCMA, enabling the immune system to specifically identify and eliminate malignant B cells. It is primarily being evaluated as a treatment for relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies, including multiple myeloma, B-cell leukemia, and B-cell lymphoma, and is specifically investigated as a potential rescue therapy for patients who have relapsed after CD19-targeted CAR-T treatments.
