anti-CD19 CAR NK cells are an investigational cell therapy being developed by Changhai Hospital for the treatment of various relapsed or refractory autoimmune diseases, including Sjogren's syndrome, systemic sclerosis, idiopathic inflammatory myopathy, and rheumatoid arthritis. This therapy involves engineering Natural Killer (NK) cells to express a Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) that specifically targets the B-lymphocyte antigen CD19, which is expressed on the surface of B cells. By targeting and depleting these CD19-positive B cells, the therapy aims to eliminate the source of pathogenic autoantibodies and reset the immune system. CAR-NK cells are often explored as an alternative to CAR-T cells due to a potentially superior safety profile, including a lower risk of cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurotoxicity.
