Overview

anti-CD19 CAR-T cells (Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center) is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy designed to target the CD19 antigen expressed on B cells. Developed by the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, this therapy is specifically being evaluated for the treatment of pediatric patients with refractory or recurrent lupus nephritis. The mechanism involves the depletion of B-lymphocytes, which are the precursors to antibody-secreting plasma cells; by eliminating these cells, the therapy aims to halt the production of pathogenic autoantibodies that drive the inflammatory destruction of the kidneys in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This approach represents a potential paradigm shift from chronic immunosuppression to a one-time cellular immunotherapy aimed at achieving long-term drug-free remission in children who have failed traditional therapies.
