Overview

This autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is developed by Shenzhen Second People's Hospital for the treatment of relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies, including B-cell leukemia and B-cell lymphoma. The T cells are genetically engineered using lentiviral or retroviral vectors to express a CAR targeting the CD19 antigen, a protein widely expressed on the surface of B-lineage cells. The construct incorporates CD28 and CD3 zeta costimulatory domains to enhance T-cell activation, proliferation, and persistence. A distinguishing feature of this specific CAR-T product is the inclusion of a 'safety switch' designed to allow for the rapid elimination of the engineered cells in the event of severe adverse events, such as cytokine release syndrome (CRS) or neurotoxicity.
