Overview

Anti-Helicobacter pylori immunoglobulin Y (IgY) is an avian-derived polyclonal antibody product developed by the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences for the treatment of *Helicobacter pylori* infection. Produced by immunizing laying hens with *H. pylori* antigens, the resulting antibodies are harvested from egg yolks and processed into an oral powder. The mechanism of action involves passive immunization, where the IgY antibodies bind to specific bacterial surface proteins and virulence factors, such as urease, thereby preventing bacterial adhesion to the gastric mucosa and neutralizing the pathogen's ability to survive in the acidic stomach environment. In clinical trials, this IgY powder is administered as an adjunct to standard triple therapy (omeprazole, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin) to enhance bacterial eradication rates and alleviate symptoms of gastritis and peptic ulcers.
