A combination therapy consisting of an anti-programmed death 1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibody and a platinum-based chemotherapy regimen. Anti-PD-1 antibodies (such as pembrolizumab or nivolumab) are immune checkpoint inhibitors that block the PD-1 pathway on T cells, preventing cancer cells from evading immune detection and destruction. Platinum-based chemotherapies (such as cisplatin or carboplatin) are cytotoxic agents that damage DNA in rapidly dividing cells, leading to cancer cell death. The combination is used primarily for the treatment of various advanced cancers—including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), urothelial carcinoma, and others—where it has demonstrated improved progression-free survival and overall survival compared to chemotherapy alone[2][3][7]. This regimen is typically administered as first-line therapy in eligible patients.
