Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Anti-SARS-CoV-2 convalescent plasma is a biologic, blood-derived passive immunotherapy consisting of plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19. This plasma contains polyclonal antibodies, specifically neutralizing IgG antibodies, directed against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The therapy aims to provide immediate, passive immunity to patients with active COVID-19 infections by neutralizing the virus and preventing further cellular entry. It was investigated by Centro Medico ABC in Mexico for the treatment of severe and critical COVID-19 pneumonia in hospitalized patients. However, clinical trials, including NCT04432103, were terminated or showed limited benefit in severe cases, leading to a shift in focus toward other treatments.
