Anti-SARS-CoV-2 convalescent plasma is a passive immunotherapy derived from the blood of individuals who have recovered from a documented SARS-CoV-2 infection. This plasma contains a polyclonal mixture of neutralizing antibodies that specifically target the SARS-CoV-2 virus, primarily by binding to the viral spike protein and inhibiting its interaction with the host cell's ACE2 receptor. Developed and evaluated by the University of the Philippines in the Co-CLARITY trial, this treatment is administered intravenously to hospitalized adult COVID-19 patients as an adjunctive therapy. The primary therapeutic goal is to provide immediate, exogenous immunity to neutralize the virus, thereby reducing viral load, preventing disease progression, and decreasing the necessity for intensive care unit (ICU) admission.
