Antibiotic + microbial transplantation therapy is an investigational treatment protocol for peanut allergy. The regimen consists of a 7-day pretreatment with oral antibiotics to clear the patient's existing gut microbiome, followed by a 28-day course of oral encapsulated Microbial Transplantation Therapy (MTT). MTT is a purified and concentrated form of fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) containing less than 1% fecal material, composed of live bacteria from healthy, non-allergic donors. The therapy aims to restore healthy bacterial populations in the gut that promote immune tolerance and increase the threshold of peanut reactivity. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials led by Dr. Rima Rachid at Boston Children's Hospital in collaboration with the University of Minnesota.
