This refers to a combination of an anticholinergic agent and an antidepressant. Anticholinergics are drugs that block the action of acetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous system, leading to effects such as reduced muscle spasms, decreased bodily secretions, and sometimes cognitive impairment. Antidepressants are medications used primarily to treat depressive disorders; some classes (notably tricyclic antidepressants) possess significant anticholinergic properties themselves. There is no single pharmaceutical product universally recognized as "anticholinergic + antidepressant," but certain tricyclic antidepressants (such as amitriptyline) inherently combine both actions due to their pharmacology[2][4][8]. In rare cases, combination products or regimens may be used off-label for specific indications where both effects are desired.
