Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Antiretroviral medications + isoniazid prophylaxis refers to a therapeutic strategy evaluated in the TEMPRANO ANRS 12136 trial conducted by the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (ANRS). This intervention combines early initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) with a 6-month course of isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) in HIV-infected adults. The goal of this combination is to reduce severe HIV-related morbidity and mortality, specifically by preventing tuberculosis, which is a leading cause of death in HIV-infected individuals in sub-Saharan Africa. The trial demonstrated that both early ART and IPT independently and additively provide significant clinical benefits even in patients with high CD4 counts.
