Overview

Rabbit anti-human thymocyte immunoglobulin (rATG) is a purified, pasteurized, gamma immunoglobulin fraction of serum from rabbits immunized with human thymocytes. It acts as a potent immunosuppressive agent by depleting T-lymphocytes through various mechanisms, including complement-dependent lysis, opsonization, and apoptosis. It is primarily used in the prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and for the prevention and treatment of acute rejection in organ transplantation. In the context of the ALL SCTped 2012 FORUM trial, it is used as part of the conditioning regimen to prevent GvHD and graft rejection in pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
