This combination therapy regimen consists of apatinib, albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel), and carboplatin. Apatinib is a selective small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), functioning as an anti-angiogenic agent. Albumin paclitaxel is a microtubule inhibitor that promotes tubulin assembly and stabilizes microtubules, while carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that causes DNA cross-linking and inhibits DNA synthesis. This triplet combination is being evaluated in a Phase II clinical trial sponsored by The First Affiliated Hospital with Nanjing Medical University as a neoadjuvant therapy for patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). The study aims to assess the safety and efficacy of the regimen, specifically focusing on the pathologic complete response (pCR) rate. Apatinib is developed and manufactured by Hengrui Pharmaceutical.
