Overview

A combination therapy consisting of the small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor apatinib and autologous cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells. Apatinib is a potent and highly selective inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2), which blocks the signaling pathways necessary for tumor angiogenesis. CIK cells are a heterogeneous population of ex vivo expanded T lymphocytes, characterized by the co-expression of CD3 and CD56, generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells in the presence of cytokines like interferon-gamma and interleukin-2. These cells possess potent, non-major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-restricted cytotoxic activity against various tumor types. The combination is being investigated by The First People's Hospital of Changzhou as a third-line treatment for patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma who have wild-type EGFR.
