Overview

Apatinib + oxaliplatin is a combination therapy regimen comprising a targeted anti-angiogenic agent and a cytotoxic platinum-based chemotherapy. Apatinib (also known as rivoceranib) is a small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that highly selectively inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2), thereby blocking tumor angiogenesis and proliferation. Oxaliplatin is a third-generation platinum derivative that exerts its antineoplastic effect by forming reactive platinum complexes that cross-link DNA, leading to the inhibition of DNA replication and transcription, and ultimately inducing apoptosis. This specific combination has been investigated by researchers at Xinqiao Hospital in Chongqing, China, primarily for the treatment of recurrent or advanced ovarian cancer. The rationale for this combination is to achieve synergistic anti-tumor activity by simultaneously targeting the tumor's blood supply and its genetic integrity, particularly in patients who have developed resistance to standard platinum-based therapies.
