Apatinib is a small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively targets and inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2), thereby blocking tumor angiogenesis. It was approved by the China Food and Drug Administration in 2014 for treating advanced gastric cancer patients who have failed second-line treatment. In the context of studies conducted by Henan Cancer Hospital, apatinib is being investigated in combination with various PD-1 inhibitors (such as camrelizumab, sintilimab, or tislelizumab) for patients with advanced gastric cancer or gastroesophageal junction cancer. This combination therapy aims to enhance anti-tumor immune responses by combining anti-angiogenic effects with immune checkpoint inhibition, potentially overcoming resistance in previously treated patients.
