A combination therapy consisting of apatinib, a small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor, and a programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitor. Apatinib (also known as rivoceranib) selectively inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), thereby inhibiting tumor angiogenesis and potentially modulating the tumor microenvironment to enhance immune activity. PD-L1 inhibitors are monoclonal antibodies that block the interaction between PD-L1 on tumor cells and the PD-1 receptor on T cells, thereby restoring the anti-tumor immune response. This combination is being investigated as a maintenance therapy for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) in patients who have achieved disease control following initial induction chemotherapy. The rationale for this combination is the potential synergy between anti-angiogenic effects and immune checkpoint blockade to prolong progression-free survival.
