A combination therapy consisting of apatinib (also known as rivoceranib) and pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD). Apatinib is an oral, small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), thereby inhibiting tumor-induced angiogenesis. Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin is a liposomal formulation of the anthracycline topoisomerase II inhibitor doxorubicin, designed to enhance drug delivery to tumor tissues while minimizing cardiotoxicity and other systemic side effects. This combination was evaluated by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in the Phase 2 APPROVE trial for the treatment of platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer, where it demonstrated a significant improvement in progression-free survival compared to PLD monotherapy.
