Overview

Apatinib + taxane is a combination chemotherapy and targeted therapy regimen primarily investigated for the treatment of advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Apatinib (also known as rivoceranib or YN968D1) is a potent, orally active small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), thereby inhibiting tumor-induced angiogenesis. Taxanes, such as paclitaxel or docetaxel, are microtubule-stabilizing agents that interfere with the normal breakdown of microtubules during cell division, leading to mitotic arrest and cell death. This combination is being evaluated by institutions like The First Hospital of Lanzhou University to improve outcomes in patients with breast cancer who have failed standard therapies, leveraging the synergistic effects of anti-angiogenic and cytotoxic mechanisms.
