Drug intelligence / Profile preview
APD515 is an optimized oromucosal (liquid) formulation of the muscarinic agonist bethanechol, developed for the treatment of xerostomia (dry mouth), particularly in advanced cancer patients and other populations suffering from reduced salivary flow. Bethanechol stimulates salivary glands to produce saliva by acting as a muscarinic receptor agonist. APD515 is designed for application to the inside of the mouth and represents a new, patent-protected use of this well-known medicine. The drug has shown significant efficacy in reducing symptoms of dry mouth compared to placebo in Phase II clinical trials, with a favorable safety profile[4][5][7].
