**Apixaban + atenolol** is a combination of the oral anticoagulant apixaban and the cardioselective beta-blocker atenolol. Apixaban is a **direct factor Xa inhibitor**, utilized primarily for prevention and treatment of thromboembolic events (such as stroke in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism) by selectively inhibiting the activity of factor Xa in the coagulation cascade[1][2]. Atenolol is a **selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist** that works by blocking beta-1 receptors predominantly in cardiac tissue, thereby decreasing heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure, commonly used in the management of hypertension, angina, and arrhythmias[1].\nWhen coadministered, Phase 1 clinical studies show there is no clinically significant pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic interaction between apixaban and atenolol: atenolol does not affect apixaban’s anticoagulant activity or exposure to a clinically relevant extent, and apixaban does not affect the pharmacokinetics or effects of atenolol. This regimen remains generally well tolerated in healthy subjects, with minor decreases in apixaban plasma concentrations (AUC and Cmax) that are not considered clinically meaningful[1][2][3].
