Overview

**Apricitabine + tipranavir + ritonavir** is a triple-combination regimen investigated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Apricitabine is a deoxycytidine analogue nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that blocks HIV viral replication by inhibiting reverse transcriptase. Tipranavir is a non-peptidic HIV-1 protease inhibitor effective against multidrug-resistant HIV strains, administered together with ritonavir, a protease inhibitor used at lower doses to boost tipranavir’s bioavailability via inhibition of CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein. In combination, tipranavir/ritonavir increases exposure to apricitabine, but not to a clinically significant degree, and no dosage adjustment is needed when co-administered. This regimen is studied specifically for use in HIV-1, particularly in treatment-experienced patients with resistant virus[1][2][3][4][6][7].
