Apricoxib + docetaxel is an experimental combination therapy investigated primarily for the treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Apricoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), designed to suppress prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production, which is associated with tumor progression. Docetaxel is a chemotherapeutic agent that stabilizes microtubules, thereby inhibiting cell division and promoting apoptosis in cancer cells. The rationale for combining these agents was based on evidence that COX-2 overexpression correlates with poor outcomes in NSCLC and that COX-2 inhibition might enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy. Clinical trials did not demonstrate improved progression-free survival with this combination compared to standard therapy, and development of apricoxib was discontinued due to lackluster results[1][3].
