Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aqualan L + glycerol is a topical moisturizing cream developed by Orion Pharma for the treatment of dry skin conditions, including atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. The formulation combines the Aqualan L emollient base—containing water, caprylic/capric triglyceride, isopropyl palmitate, and glyceryl stearate—with added glycerol (glycerin) at concentrations up to 20%. Glycerol functions as a humectant, drawing moisture into the stratum corneum, while the emollient base helps restore the skin's lipid barrier and prevent transepidermal water loss. The product has been studied in Phase 3 clinical trials (e.g., NCT00846235) to evaluate its efficacy in improving skin hydration and barrier function in patients with atopic dermatitis.
