Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aquamin F + glucosamine sulfate is a combination dietary supplement investigated for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Aquamin F is a multi-mineral complex derived from the red algae *Lithothamnion calcareum*, providing a bioavailable source of calcium, magnesium, and 72 trace minerals. Glucosamine sulfate is a naturally occurring amino sugar that serves as a precursor for glycosaminoglycans, which are major structural components of joint cartilage. The combination is hypothesized to reduce joint pain, stiffness, and improve mobility by providing essential minerals for bone health and structural substrates for cartilage repair, while potentially exerting anti-inflammatory effects. It has been evaluated in clinical trials (e.g., NCT00452101) to assess its efficacy compared to placebo and individual components in subjects with osteoarthritis of the knee.
