Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This topical combination drug, developed by Pierre Fabre, is designed for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD). It consists of *Aquaphilus dolomiae* extract (a biotechnological ingredient derived from Avène Thermal Spring Water), *Broussonetia papyrifera* (paper mulberry) extract, and dextran sulfate. The formulation, often referred to as emollient PLUS, addresses the multi-factorial nature of AD by improving skin barrier function, correcting microbiota dysbiosis, and reducing type 2 inflammation. Specifically, the *Broussonetia papyrifera* extract has been shown to prevent cytokine-induced AD phenotypes by inducing the expression of filaggrin and caspase-14 and modulating the phosphorylation of STAT3 in the JAK-STAT pathway. Clinical data indicates significant improvements in disease severity (L-SCORAD) and a substantial reduction in pruritus.
