Overview

**ARC1779 + desmopressin** is a combination of two drugs used in clinical research to investigate platelet function disorders, particularly type 2B von Willebrand disease. ARC1779 is a nucleotide aptamer that binds and inhibits the A1 domain of von Willebrand Factor (VWF), blocking its interaction with the platelet glycoprotein Ib (GPIb) receptor. Desmopressin is a synthetic analogue of vasopressin that increases release of large VWF multimers but, in type 2B VWD, can induce thrombocytopenia due to excessive platelet aggregation. The combination is intended to prevent desmopressin-induced thrombocytopenia by inhibiting excessive VWF-mediated platelet binding while simultaneously increasing VWF levels[1][2][3].
