Overview
Aripiprazole + escitalopram is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs used together, typically in the management of major depressive disorder (MDD) and other mood disorders when monotherapy with an antidepressant is insufficient. Aripiprazole is an atypical antipsychotic that acts as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, and as an antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases synaptic serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake into presynaptic neurons. The combination may enhance antidepressant efficacy through complementary mechanisms affecting both serotonergic and dopaminergic neurotransmission[2][4][7]. This regimen is not available as a fixed-dose commercial product but represents a common augmentation strategy in clinical psychiatry.
