Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Artesunate + mefloquine** is an oral fixed-dose artemisinin-based combination therapy for acute uncomplicated *Plasmodium falciparum* malaria, including some mixed *Plasmodium* infections. It combines artesunate, a rapidly acting artemisinin derivative, with the longer-acting quinoline antimalarial mefloquine to clear residual blood-stage parasites after the initial rapid parasite reduction. The ASMQ fixed-dose product was developed to simplify three-day treatment, support adherence, and reduce the risk of functional monotherapy. Fixed-dose ASMQ products have been developed and registered or supplied in multiple endemic settings, including paediatric tablet and granule formulations.
