Overview

Articaine + tramadol is a combination therapy being investigated for its efficacy in managing pain associated with the surgical extraction of third molars. Articaine is a local anesthetic of the amide type that functions as a sodium channel blocker, inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic that possesses a dual mechanism of action: it acts as a mu-opioid receptor agonist and also inhibits the neuronal reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine. The combination is typically administered via an inferior alveolar nerve block to enhance the depth and duration of anesthesia while providing superior postoperative analgesia compared to local anesthetic alone. This specific research and clinical evaluation are led by Marmara University.
