Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AS101 + chemotherapy is a combination therapy consisting of the immunomodulator AS101 (ammonium trichloro(dioxoethylene-O,O′)-tellurate) administered alongside standard cytotoxic chemotherapy agents. AS101 is a synthetic tellurium compound that acts as an immunomodulator, shown to stimulate production of cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). When given in combination with chemotherapy regimens like carboplatin and etoposide or cyclophosphamide, AS101 helps reduce chemotherapy-induced neutropenia and thrombocytopenia, preserves bone marrow function, and can prevent chemotherapy-induced alopecia without protecting tumor cells from chemotherapy-induced cytotoxicity. The combination thereby enables more consistent delivery of full-dose chemotherapy and may improve overall treatment response in cancer patients[1][3].
