Overview

This antioxidant combination therapy, consisting of ascorbate (Vitamin C), vitamin E, zinc, and selenium, is being investigated by researchers at Cairo University. The regimen is specifically designed to address oxidative stress in women with endometriosis who are undergoing assisted reproductive techniques, such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). By supplementing with high doses of these antioxidants (1000mg ascorbate and 400 IU vitamin E, alongside zinc and selenium), the treatment aims to reduce elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the plasma and follicular fluid. High ROS levels are a known factor in the pathogenesis of endometriosis and are associated with negative outcomes in in vitro fertilization (IVF). The primary therapeutic goal is to improve pregnancy outcomes by neutralizing free radicals and supporting the body's endogenous antioxidant enzyme systems.
