**Ascorbic acid** is vitamin C, a small-molecule water-soluble reducing agent and essential nutrient. In the Clifford Hospital-sponsored NSCLC program, pharmacologic-dose intravenous ascorbic acid was investigated alongside local modulated electro-hyperthermia and supportive care for stage III-IV non-small cell lung cancer. At high intravenous concentrations, ascorbate can undergo redox cycling and promote extracellular hydrogen peroxide generation and oxidative stress, a non-target-directed mechanism proposed to preferentially damage susceptible tumor cells.
