ascorbic acid + alpha-tocopherol + selenium

This combination drug consists of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E), and selenium. It was evaluated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the Shandong Intervention Trial, a large-scale Phase 3 study in Linqu County, China. The intervention aimed to inhibit the progression of precancerous gastric lesions—such as chronic atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, and dysplasia—to gastric cancer in a high-risk population. Ascorbic acid and alpha-tocopherol act as antioxidants, while selenium is a trace element with potential chemopreventive properties. Long-term follow-up data indicated that this supplementation significantly reduced gastric cancer incidence and mortality over a 22-year period.
