Overview

This investigational combination therapy, studied by the University of Nebraska, pairs high-dose intravenous ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) with bevacizumab for the treatment of recurrent high-grade gliomas, including glioblastoma. Bevacizumab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits angiogenesis by targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). High-dose ascorbic acid is hypothesized to exert anti-cancer effects by acting as a pro-oxidant, generating hydrogen peroxide that leads to oxidative DNA damage in tumor cells. The Phase I study aims to determine the safety and optimal dosing of this combination in patients whose tumors have recurred after standard treatments.
