Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ascorbic acid + coenzyme Q10 is a combination antioxidant therapy being investigated by Ain Shams University for the prevention of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is a water-soluble small molecule that functions as a potent free radical scavenger and restores intracellular glutathione levels. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a lipid-soluble antioxidant essential for mitochondrial electron transport and energy production. In the context of cisplatin chemotherapy, these agents are used to mitigate oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and subsequent apoptosis in renal tissues, which are common pathways leading to acute kidney injury in cancer patients.
