Overview

A combination of **ascorbic acid** (vitamin C) and **reduced glutathione (GSH)**, both potent water-soluble antioxidants, primarily used for their additive and synergistic efficacy in neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and preventing oxidative damage in cells. This combination is under investigation, particularly in intravenous formulations, for its potential to prevent contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing coronary interventions, based on the hypothesis that their combined use enhances ROS scavenging, promotes vasodilation through increased nitric oxide bioavailability, and improves tissue perfusion[1][2][7]. Oral and intravenous regimens are studied for reducing oxidative stress and for protective effects in hepatic and renal diseases[3][4][5][6].
