Overview

This antioxidant combination therapy, comprising 1.5g ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), 300μg selenium, 40mg zinc, and 45mg lycopene, is being investigated as a potential treatment for non-hospitalized adults with mild to moderate COVID-19. Developed and evaluated by Unity Health Toronto within the CanTreatCOVID (Canadian Adaptive Platform Trial of Treatments for COVID-19 in Community Settings) adaptive platform trial, the therapy aims to prevent hospitalization and accelerate recovery. The combination leverages the synergistic antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties of its components to mitigate oxidative stress and support the host immune response against SARS-CoV-2. In the trial, it is compared against usual care and other therapeutics like Paxlovid to determine its clinical and cost-effectiveness in a community setting.
