Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ASN-002 + 5-fluorouracil is a combination of two therapeutics: - ASN-002 is a recombinant adenovirus vector engineered to express human interferon gamma (IFNγ), functioning as an *immunostimulatory cancer vaccine* or *immunotherapy*. It is primarily administered by intratumoral injection and has been studied in skin cancers, particularly basal cell carcinoma. ASN-002 stimulates immune responses against tumor cells via the production of IFNγ, which promotes anti-tumoral immune activation, including increased cytotoxic T cell activity, enhanced natural killer cell function, and increased presentation of tumor antigens. ASN-002's clinical development originates from Transgene, with Ascend Biopharmaceuticals and Transgene as prominent developers for cancer indications[2][5][6]. - 5-fluorouracil is a classic *antineoplastic small molecule* chemotherapy agent, a pyrimidine analog. It inhibits thymidylate synthase, leading to impaired DNA synthesis and cell death in rapidly dividing tumor cells. It is well-established across many cancer indications and may be used topically, intravenously, or by other routes. Combination therapy with ASN-002 and 5-fluorouracil is designed to maximize immunotherapeutic and cytotoxic antitumor activity, specifically under investigation for non-melanoma skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma.
