ASP1941 + sitagliptin is an unbranded combination of two small molecule anti-diabetic agents: ASP1941 (generic name: tofogliflozin) and sitagliptin. Tofogliflozin is an **SGLT2 inhibitor** that lowers blood glucose by promoting urinary glucose excretion via inhibition of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 in the proximal renal tubule. Sitagliptin is a **DPP-4 inhibitor** that improves glycemic control by inhibiting dipeptidyl peptidase 4, thereby increasing endogenous GLP-1 and GIP levels, which boost insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. This combination is being investigated for the treatment of **type 2 diabetes mellitus**.
