Overview

ASP3700 + itraconazole refers to the co-administration of the investigational urate transporter 1 (URAT1) inhibitor ASP3700 and the potent cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) inhibitor itraconazole. This combination is primarily utilized in clinical pharmacology studies to evaluate the impact of CYP3A4 inhibition on the pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability of ASP3700. ASP3700, developed by Astellas Pharma, is a small molecule designed to treat hyperuricemia and gout by inhibiting the reabsorption of uric acid in the renal proximal tubules. Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal agent frequently used as a probe drug in drug-drug interaction (DDI) studies due to its strong inhibitory effect on the CYP3A4 enzyme, which is a major metabolic pathway for many pharmaceutical compounds.
