aspirin + apixaban

Aspirin + apixaban is a combination therapy consisting of the antiplatelet agent aspirin and the direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) apixaban. Aspirin works by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1), thereby preventing the synthesis of thromboxane A2 and reducing platelet aggregation. Apixaban is a highly selective, reversible, and direct inhibitor of Factor Xa, which plays a central role in the coagulation cascade by converting prothrombin to thrombin. This combination is often evaluated for its efficacy and safety in preventing thromboembolic events in patients with cardiovascular conditions, such as those undergoing non-cardiac vascular surgery or patients with atrial fibrillation and concomitant coronary artery disease. The Petrovsky National Research Centre of Surgery has conducted retrospective studies to assess the perioperative safety of this combination in vascular surgery patients.
