Overview
Doppel Spalt Compact is an over-the-counter (OTC) fixed-dose combination of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and caffeine, developed by PharmaSGP for the short-term symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, toothaches, and fever. Aspirin acts as a non-selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), reducing the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins. Caffeine acts as an antagonist of adenosine receptors (primarily A1 and A2A subtypes), which promotes vasoconstriction of cerebral blood vessels and enhances the analgesic efficacy of aspirin. Originally part of the historic "Spalt" brand family created by Much AG in 1932, the brand was subsequently owned by Wyeth, Pfizer, and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) before being acquired by PharmaSGP in 2021.
