Overview

Aspirin + ibuprofen is a combination of two nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): aspirin and ibuprofen. Both drugs act by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. Aspirin irreversibly inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, providing analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory effects as well as an antiplatelet effect at low doses. Ibuprofen reversibly inhibits the same enzymes and is primarily used for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. The combination is not generally recommended due to increased risk of adverse effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding and attenuation of aspirin’s cardioprotective antiplatelet effect[1][2][3][5][8]. There are no widely marketed or approved pharmaceutical products that combine both agents in a single formulation.
