Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aspirin + Lovaza is a combination of two agents: aspirin, an antiplatelet and anti-inflammatory drug, and Lovaza, a prescription formulation of highly purified omega-3-acid ethyl esters (primarily eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA] and docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]). Aspirin irreversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX1/COX2), reducing thromboxane A2 production to inhibit platelet aggregation. Lovaza acts by reducing hepatic production of triglycerides through inhibition of esterification processes in the liver. It is indicated as an adjunct to diet for adults with severe hypertriglyceridemia (≥500 mg/dL). The combination may have additive effects on platelet function and lipid metabolism but also increases bleeding risk due to overlapping effects on coagulation[4][5][6].
